Daily Devotional — Day 22: Serving Others
Psalm 100:2 · Isaiah 58:10-11 · Mark 10:43-44
Day 22 of this daily devotional focuses on serving others through Psalm 100:2, Isaiah 58:10-11, and Mark 10:43-44. It's 6 AM and Lisa is already exhausted — between work, kids' activities, and household responsibilities, she feels like she's running on empty. When her pastor talked about serving, her first thought was 'I don't have anything left to give.' But what if serving isn't about giving from your overflow? What if God multiplies what you offer, no matter how small? Isaiah paints a beautiful picture: when we spend ourselves on behalf of others, our own darkness is replaced with light. Jesus turns the world's definition of greatness upside down — in His kingdom, the greatest are those who serve. You don't have to have your life perfectly together to serve. This morning devotional includes Bible reading, reflection, and prayer. From 3 Verses a Day, a daily Christian devotional podcast by Mark Ross Junkans.

Reflection
It was 6 AM and Lisa was already exhausted. Between work, kids' activities, and household responsibilities, she felt like she was running on empty most days. When her pastor talked about serving others, her first thought was, "I don't have anything left to give." Maybe you've felt that way too.
But what if serving isn't about giving from your overflow—what if it's about discovering that God multiplies what you offer, no matter how small?
The psalmist connects worship with gladness. True worship isn't just singing songs on Sunday; it's living in a way that honors God throughout the week. And one of the most powerful forms of worship is using our lives to bless others.
Isaiah paints a beautiful picture: when we spend ourselves on behalf of others, especially those who are hurting or in need, something amazing happens. Our own darkness is replaced with light. God guides us, satisfies our needs, and strengthens us. Serving others doesn't drain us when we're serving from God's strength—it actually refills us.
Jesus turns the world's definition of greatness upside down. In His kingdom, the greatest people aren't those who accumulate the most power, wealth, or status. They're those who use whatever they have—time, skills, resources, influence—to serve others.
Here's what I've discovered: you don't have to have your life perfectly together to serve others. Some of the most powerful ministry happens when we serve from our own brokenness, offering what we have rather than waiting until we feel qualified.
Serving others isn't an obligation that should make you feel guilty—it's an opportunity that can bring meaning, connection, and joy to your life. We serve not to gain God's approval, which we already possess through Christ's finished work, but because we already have His complete love and acceptance.
Prayer
Servant-hearted Jesus, show me ways to serve others that fit my current season and circumstances. Help me see service not as burden but as blessing.
Application
Look for one small way to serve someone today—hold a door, send an encouraging text, help with a task, or simply listen well.
