Daily Devotional — Day 28: God's Presence
Psalm 139:7-10 · Isaiah 43:4 · Matthew 28:20
Day 28 of this daily devotional explores God's presence through Psalm 139:7-10, Isaiah 43:4, and Matthew 28:20. Loneliness might be one of the most painful experiences we face — it's possible to feel lonely in a crowded room, isolated even when surrounded by family. But what if you're never actually alone? David asks a rhetorical question: where can I go from God's presence? His answer reveals that there is nowhere in the universe, no situation in life, no emotional state where God is absent. God's hand guides and holds us wherever we are — this is personal, intimate presence, not distant observation. Isaiah records one of the most tender declarations in all of Scripture: you are precious and honored in God's sight. And Jesus' final words before ascending were a promise: 'I am with you always.' Your feelings of loneliness are real, but they don't reflect the truth about your situation. This morning devotional includes Bible reading, reflection, and prayer. From 3 Verses a Day, a daily Christian devotional podcast by Mark Ross Junkans.

“Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.”
— Psalm 139:7-10
“Since you are precious and honored in my sight, and because I love you, I will give people in exchange for you, nations in exchange for your life.”
— Isaiah 43:4
“And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
— Matthew 28:20
Reflection
Loneliness might be one of the most painful experiences we face as humans. It's possible to feel lonely in a crowded room, isolated even when surrounded by family, or forgotten even when your calendar is full. The ache of feeling truly alone can be overwhelming, especially during difficult seasons when you need support most.
But what if you're never actually alone, even when you feel like you are?
David asks a rhetorical question: where can I go from God's presence? His answer reveals something beautiful—there is nowhere in the universe, no situation in life, no emotional state where God is absent. Whether you're on the mountaintop of success or in the valley of despair, God is there.
Notice that David doesn't just say God sees everything—he says God's hand guides and holds us wherever we are. This is personal, intimate presence, not distant observation. When you feel like you're falling, God's right hand is already there to catch you.
Isaiah records one of the most tender declarations in all of Scripture: you are precious and honored in God's sight. Not because of what you do, but because of who you are—His beloved child. God doesn't just tolerate your presence; He treasures it. You matter to Him more than nations and kingdoms.
Jesus' final words to His disciples before ascending to heaven were a promise of presence: "I am with you always." Not just sometimes, not just when you're being good, not just when you remember to pray—always. Through His Spirit, Jesus keeps this promise every moment of every day.
Your feelings of loneliness are real and valid, but they don't reflect the truth about your situation. You are seen, known, loved, and accompanied by the God of the universe every single day.
Prayer
Ever-present God, when loneliness overwhelms me, remind me that You are always with me. Help me sense Your presence even when I can't feel it.
Application
When you feel alone today, speak this truth out loud: "God is with me right now, and I am never truly alone."
